After all their hard work I thought my 7th graders needed a project with instant gratification. Check out their designs.
Before I begin to tell you about this wonderful project I need to thank Mr. Consroe, the Social Studies teacher and Ms. Smith, the Math teacher who have been such asset to this unit. The 6th grade studied Egypt in Social Studies so Mr. Consroe and I decided to create a LARGE Arts Integration lesson on Pyramids. At the beginning of the unit I asked Ms. Smith to teach us about equilateral triangles ( I am no math genius). The students created triangles and then used the templates to trace onto cardboard. One pyramid was created out of 32 triangles. Lots and lots of cutting... Next year Parent Volunteers are welcome to join in the fun. Then the students started to tape the triangles making pyramids to create the larger pyramid. After all the taping was done it was time to paper mache and then work on our designs. My 6th grade minors worked really hard. So excited to have these in the Showcase!!! It has been a long journey and finally they are complete. My 7th graders were so determined to finish these letters. This assignment began as an idea to create graffiti and turned into a 3D project with great success. Each team thought of a word and then each student created a letter out of cardboard. When all letters were complete they were paper-mached and painted. I am so proud of my 7th graders. |
